Jazz Reggae Festival has been an integral part of the UCLA and LA communities for the past 29 years. In honor of the festival’s 30th anniversary, we are celebrating three decades of good vibes, jammin’ music, and cultural enrichment with a one-day festival under the Los Angeles sun. From the festival’s humble beginnings in 1986, it has continued to grow and develop while forging connections between UCLA and the broader Los Angeles community. Alongside sustainable initiatives and live art, the festival has showcased talent ranging from Ziggy Marley to Snoop Dogg to Erykah Badu. This year, Jazz Reggae Festival is returning to its roots, presenting headliners from the genres of jazz and reggae accompanied by a curated selection of talented student bands.

The 2016 Joshua Tree Music Festival took place as usual in the panoramic setting of the Joshua Tree desert. The festival was family-oriented with RV and regular camping available, as well as health food, art craft vendors and Yoga practitioners; much to the delight of the local and surrounding communities which include Los Angeles and San Diego.
The musical line-up was very eclectic and ranged from New-Orleans Funk (Dumpstaphunk), Chicago Blues (The Main Squeeze), acoustic Reggae (Del Corazon), Ethiopian Jazz (Dhara World Music Quartet) to the local favorite fusioned sound of The Desert Rhythm Project. The three-day Festival was peaceful and well-organized.

Festival in Joshua Tree celebrated affinity, totality, rebirth, cosmos
and reverence touch of the Divine Feminine. Being in the bhav inhabits
the human body as a sacred vessel, enthralling curio paths to
self-love. Workshops, practices, restorative sessions at Shakti
collaborated cutting-edge artists, chants from the heart, or kirtan,
soul-centered yoga, caverns of souls unleashing passion for the
eclectic similes of Shakti. Each appearing artist or teacher offered
sensational journeys into their intimate world of stories. To capture
a few, Tantra Workshop leader Dawn Cartwright advocates “we are the
ecstasy we’ve been longing for all our lives.” AIReal Yoga founder,
Carmen Curtis honored “excellent way to grow yoga practice while
feeling safe.” This modality of yoga knows no bounds, surrendering
body in movements and trusting support of the flow. Both these leaders
as well as all the Shakti artists reminded patrons Divine Feminine
quite inebriating, safely empyreal about opening spirits and
transcending limitations. Soul-centered yoga, chanting, mantra, music,
meditation, hot-soaking, sound baths, tantra and/or ecstatic sunset
dance concluded in lightning rods of contention! Shakti is the growth
edge that amenably welcomes insights, divine feminine and support
endless possibilities simultaneously relaxing and broadening horizons.
